Vrsar          

Just a dozen kilometres south of Porec, and very close to the wonderful Lim Fjord, lies the little hilltop village of Vrsar. With a commanding view of the coast, it was natural for Vrsar to become a defended fortress. Only parts of the fortification system, built in the 12th century, have been preserved but the fortress-castle is well worth a look. At least Casanova considered it worthwhile. Italy's most famous lover visited Vrsar twice and even noted it in his memoirs. The main town gates dating from the 13th century are still there. One old gate has a statue of the Venetian Lion of St Marc. The port also makes a nice stroll and nearby is the 12th-century Church of St Mary of the Sea. (See Vrsar on a map)

     Accommodation in Vrsar

     It is perhaps ironic that such a traditional old place should be the centre of Croatian naturism but the opening of the immense Koversada naturist camp in 1961 put Vrsar on the global map for naturism. Of course you don't have to take it all off to stay in Vrsar. There's little accommodation available in the old town. Most of the hotels and campsites are immense complexes located a little out of town.

Getting to Vrsar

Vrsar is well connected by bus with Rovinj and Porec but there are no ferry, train or flight connections.
