Cold, cold and more cold characterize Croatia's typical January weather, especially in the interior. Zagreb may very well be covered in snow which makes it a good time to head to the ski slopes just out of town. Snow along the coast or on the islands would be a rare event indeed but it's not exactly swimsuit weather either. Even if a dip in the sea would be more than bracing, the chilly air is conducive to outdoor activities like hiking or cycling. The chance of rain on the coast runs about 50% so plan on some museum visits as well.
