All international ferries TO Croatia originate in Italy from a handful of Italian ports: Ancona, Bari, Venice Trieste, Pescara and, depending on the season, Rimini and ports in the Emilia Romagna region. (Ferries AROUND Croatia connect the Croatian islands with the coast. See more on Croatia local ferries) Naturally, there are far more ferries between Italy and Croatia in the summer. Each year a handful of ferry companies to Croatia issue their new schedules and routes for the summer season but some don't issue their schedules until March. Most of the expanded services start around April or May but some are July and August only. The season ends in September or mid- October. Note that not all the 2012 schedules are available.
If you're taking a ferry to Croatia, I strongly recommend that you buy trip cancellation insurance. Find out why. Download the schedule of local ferries to Split, Hvar, Korcula, Mljet and Dubrovnik. Croatia Ferries--News
