Rovinj is the most beloved town in Istria,
a top sight in Croatia, and one of
its
most romantic spots. With its
pastel-coloured houses clustered together on steep winding streets
and topped by a Venetian bell tower, you would think you were in Italy. (see pictures of Rovinj)
And, just a short walk from town are the pine-fringed beaches of Zatni Rt nature park.
Rovinj is still an active fishing port and you can take boats to the
lovely offshore islands, Crveni Otok and Katarina. Scuba divers
flock to Rovinj to dive the famous wreck,
Baron Gautsch. (See Rovinj on a map)
Just strolling the streets is a delight but there are a few sights to focus your sightseeing. Read more.
Rovinj is a hugely popular
destination. You'll find excellent hotels in Rovinj, cheap hotels
in Rovinj, plenty of rooms and apartments and you can even stay
in a lighthouse. Find
out more about Rovinj accommodation.
Rovinj was originally
an island that was not connected to the mainland until 1763 and it was under
the rule of Venice from the 13th to 18th centuries. Read more.

Hotel Lone, Rovinj: Croatia’s First Design Hotel
What is a “design hotel” anyway? I know that was my first question before checking into the Hotel Lone in Rovinj. Will I need a user manual to turn on the faucets? Will my eyes open each morning to garish and puzzling paintings? The answer to both questions at this remarkable new hotel is a [...]more info

Red Island, Rovinj
Only a 20 minute boat ride from Rovinj is the wooded Crveni Otok or Red Island and what a gorgeous day we spent out there. I hadn’t been for years and was surprised when some locals told me that there was no more “FKK”, that is, that it was no longer an official naturist site. [...]more info

Zlatni Rt, Rovinj
This gorgeous peninsula, Zlatni Rt, is a protected park about a kilometer from Rovinj‘s old town. I highly recommend renting a bike as the easiest way to explore the park but make sure you take your bathing suit so you can plop down on one of the many pine-fringed coves! There are beach showers, but [...]more info
